Some of the previous mods don’t support PHP 8.0 so they have been removed. This might affect some minor aesthetics and features. Keep me posted if it is anything major.

IPB doesn’t seem to be aging well, with a lot of mods ending up dead. A long term solution would be to move away from IPB, though I’m not sure how you guys would take to adapting to a new forum software. That hasn’t gone down well on AD in the past.

I'm organising the existing characters. If you have unapproved characters, post the character names here so I can have them approved.

If you are interested to join the RP, join the discussion thread and chat with us on Discord.

Here are the steps you need to take:

1. Choose your side: AEUG or Neo Zeon. More factions will be available when the RP grows.
2. Create your character.
3. Add your character profile.
4. Wait for the RP to start in the main thread.

The initial post there is to set the background of the RP. I will start the RP with my character post.

So, we have an update and now animated GIFs come built in. I guess our discussions will become more... animated henceforth?

Webmaster and chief administrator. I was formerly known as Kira Yamato on SeedRPG. Hannah and I met up and started SeedRPG. And since then SeedRPG has been running for more than a year. Seeing the need to expand our horizons, we decided to setup Advent Destiny. And that's where we are today.

 We take pride in the knowledge that our site and ideas are so well recognised and respected that many have imitated us, or even resort to downright copying due to a lack of creativity on their part.

 My vision is to create a long-lasting community for Gundam fans to RP in and simply just to interact and get to know each other. I look forward to the active participation of all members in both the OOC boards and RP boards.

 As the head of the Team, I would like to express my gratitude to our loyal members for waiting for the new release and special thanks to the Advent Destiny Team for making this site possible! I was formerly known as Athrun on Seed RPG. For those who still do not know, I am Valiant's brother. When he first told me of the idea of a Gundam Seed role playing forum, I was enthusiastic and eager to join. Hence, I took up the mantle of first a moderator and then that of an administrator.

Back then, I daresay we were the pioneers of the GSRPBs. Although the entire Advent Destiny Team (minus Valiant) is busy with exams right now, we will be back full-force at the end of November!

The team decided to bring away from the shackles and the restrictions of the storyline in Gundam Seed, which brings forth this project.

Ultimately, this converges to a simple purpose that is to create a friendly atmosphere for Role-Playing.

Hi everyone, the name's Kaizer, glad to meet you .

Back on SEED RPG I was known as Kai Zergas, Jeremy Knight, Lilium Trollius, Maria Kumiko, Edana Caelan, and Sanger Zonvolt (Yeah, I'm crazy like that).  I joined the site early on, and was only a relatively unknown Orb character for the longest time.  After our Earth Alliance nearly lost all of its members, I petitioned to Valiant saying that I would make an EA character to help bring the faction back on its feet, and from there I ended up getting promoted to EA deputy, then EA faction leader.  Once we made the transition to the new site, I resumed the mantle of EA leader, and thus had to make this intro post for the people who don't know me.

While I don't need you to call me 'The Great Kaizer' or anything like that, I do accept applications for minions, and all my minions get a free dental plan; something that the other moderators and admins can't promise  .  Hope to see you all around the site, and if you ever want help with MS concepts (but no art, I suck at art), then give me a shout; I'm more than willing to help.

Heya.  I was formally Jerome Mensalien and Alicia Mackwell back at the ye olde Seed RPG, though I was only a member there half a year before the big move to Advent Destiny.  I was an 'Orbie' and decided to retain my faction of choice here at AD, as a rank-and-file member.  I tend to go around, posting in OOC threads as well as critiquing new members' Character Profiles.

Over a half-year later, I was asked to become a Faction Deputy/Leader for Orb.  Though surprised at the offer , I accepted it and I continue to work as both a regular member and a moderator of this great site.  I am now a faction leader, nation leader (Republic of East Asia), narrator (spiffy red font!), and a referee for the Coliseum.  Hence the 'Too many titles ' tag under my username.

Well, unlike most of the staff I had almost nothing to do with SEED RPG; in fact I got on just in time to see it close down.  Even still I'm happy to be here, though I'm often over anxious for a fight.  Right now this is the only RPG I'm involved in so if I happen to have some free time in my schedule you'll find me here plugging away and trying to raise activity in ZAFT.

Hopefully I'll be here for a while, my last staff position on another site lasted for about a year but hopefully I'll stick around for a while longer here on AD.

Wow! I have a space on this page?!?!

Alright, I'll cut the crap. I'm Asahi, originally known back at Seed RGP twatmaster(lol). About 2 years ago, I had no idea people roleplayed on forums like this. Back then I was the cocky newbie jerk, with no RP experience, no idea of what the word "flame" meant and just some hot hands (and fingers). I jumped into the online RP scene (introduced by a buddy of mine)

I had about half a year at SRGP, giving me enough time to shape up and get to a barely acceptable level of roleplaying (which I hope I am at now). Surviving the migration from SRGP to AD, I spent another half year being a useless pawn. And here I am now, the useless pawn mod of the current fantabulous Advent Destiny!

Considering this is my first time in a staff position (ever!), I'm apprehensive not to stuff up O_O But that doesn't mean I’m not one easy going dude . Just like you, I’m some other random person after some satisfying roleplay. Howdy, I used to be known as Takashi Wilhelm at Seed RPG. One day I just randomly thought to join a RPG, and found Seed RPG to be a great site with tons of decent people. I was a loyal Zaft soldier starting at a low rank, and slowly worked my way to becoming an Elite member. Now with the transition to Advent Destiny, everything has changed for the better.

I have to thank Valiant and all my peers for allowing me to become the Zaft moderator. They have my gratitude, and I will continue to support them anyway I can. I hope all of you have a good time here at Advent Destiny, if you need help don't hesitate to ask.

G'day, now you all should know me as winders. But I'll allow you to call me 'winders the Great' or 'winders the allmighty'. I've been one of the longest serving members of this site, snagging the Art Moderator title in my second month. As you should know, I'm obnoxious and pig headed, I'm currently the only Admin, but still one of the Advent Destiny Team.

On this site however, you guys will know me as the post-count frenzy demon; a single post and I reply to it! So beware. I am one of the staff members that gives a great deal of advice, usually in the form of whinging; to Valiant and I am responsible for several of the developments on the site. I am a self-confessed battle maniac and I take pride in moderating battles and skirmishes.

Recently, I came across an old database copy while cleaning up my laptop folders. The database was from quite a while before we were hacked. An idea struck me. One that would make me kick myself for not thinking of it all these years. Instead of recovering from the recent databases from the hack, going further back to an older database would mean less likelihood of corruption and more data retention.

This spurred me into several sleepless nights to execute my idea. The fruit of my labour sits before your eyes.

Advent Destiny is back! This time with a lot of the ancient threads that I have begun to archive. Feel free to dig around and perhaps you might be tempted to RP. I combined the restore with the new look and system that I worked on for the previous revival and this seems to give the best blend of old and new.

Advent Destiny is a role-playing community. If you are new to AD, you are joining us at an exciting time! For AD veterans, you can look forward to more of the good old times, but better.

For those of you who are new to AD, here's a brief step into our past. We went live as SEED RPG on 4 July 2004 with role-play set in the world of Mobile Suit Gundam SEED and Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny. Due to the limitations of a hosted service, we relaunched our self-hosted community as Advent Destiny on 1 November 2006. AD went on to become one of the most popular Gundam SEED role-play.
The site was unfortunately hacked and the database corrupted beyond recovery in 2010, and AD went on a hiatus until a reboot in 2015 in anticipation of Advent Destiny's 10th anniversary. The forum could not be maintained due to a combination of issues.

In early 2019, Valiant discovered a 2007 database backup that is missing content from 2008 to 2010, but is otherwise intact. This led to an intensive recovery process and a full scale revival of AD.

The members remained in touch all these years and some became very close friends. It is inspiring and touching to witness the strong bonds forged through our community. We are now relaunching Advent Destiny as a community for like-minded individuals who are interested in creating stories and role plays. Instead of a single canon role play, we welcome all forms of role plays, be it within the classic AD Cosmic Era universe Advent Destiny: Legacy, a possible new Cosmic Era storyline, or even original worlds.

Let our fellowship drive the longevity and stories we imagine, rather than define AD with a single story or genre.

I've fixed the posting error problem.

Admittedly, I'm becoming more and more frustrated with the database. Aside from templating problems, this site is suddenly throwing up more issues.

However, I have some good news. Initial testing on the development site proved that my plans might just work out. I successfully converted the database and I should be able to migrate it onto a better structure.

!!!!IMPORTANT!!!!

Back up any information that you feel is important for you. I'm sure you would want to keep a copy of your character profiles just in case Murphy's Law strikes.

I assure you that sufficient measures will be taken to backup the site, however, you should always keep a copy for your profiles, just in case.

I'm certain that the avatars will not migrate properly. You might want to copy the links to your avatars. This seems to be the only problem so far. I will not conduct the migration until I'm satisfied that it doesn't lead to much problems or incompatibility issues.

EDIT: It appears that the blog, awards and shop modules can't be migrated as well. If there is concern from the members regarding the loss of information on these information, please do raise them here. Note that the blog module has been messed up by the database.

Migrating the database is a big decision to make and I rather be sure that everyone is fine with it.

EDIT: I realised that I should include make a proper comparison of what the move would bring.

Features/Data lost:

• Avatars
  
• Signatures - The entire feature isn't lost but it's a little harder to get your signatures to be displayed in the new system
  
• Blog posts
  
• Awards feature - I'm looking into a replacement system for this. Another way is to have a page to list the awards attained by the member.
  
• Shop feature - This isn't used too heavily now but some of you might feela strong need for such a feature.
  
• Post count and points for posts - I'm inclined to do away with this. Rather than making others RP just for the sake on increasing these statistics, I feel that we should use other ways to reward RPers. I believe such a step would bring us from an amateur RP site to one that is dedicated to encourage passionate RP instead of post spamming.

New features:

• Integrated wiki-like system - This would mean you can link to the wiki information from anywhere in the site. This includes from within forum posts.
  
• User created pages - This can be used by members for their character profiles
  
• Powerful blog system - This would be able to challenge the likes of wordpress and movable type. Users will be able to request for name.adventdestiny.com domains for their blogs
  
• Group subsites - This would serve as a mini-portal for the various factions
  
• Threaded forum system - This means that replies to forum posts and replies to these replies are distinguished from each other. Replies to the topics will be listed as usual, while replies to these replies will be grouped under each reply. If you have used deviantArt's commenting system, you will be familiar with it. This is a big improvement as OOC comments to the posts can be listed separately.
  
• Books - Members will be able to create "books". This would allow the creation of game guides by players. We can have "Player's Handbook" etc, you know, in the tradition of DnD game guides.

Search engine friendly URLs have been reinstated. This time round, they aren't breaking the site. That's good news. I hope more traffic can be generated once more and direct more members here.

Headlines have been updated and the problems of the headlines disappearing has been fixed.

I'm still unable to make much time to work on things here. We have the Faction Leaders to thank for all their efforts to keep things running in my absence. Of course, the members' participation is also greatly appreciated.

Please continue to vote for us and click on the advertisements daily to help ease our the burden of bearing the costs for the server. As you might now, the site is currently hosted in Singapore. That might be partly the cause of lag for some of you. I've tried my best to optimise the site's performance but you can only compress the files so much.

I have plans to move the site onto a US server to provide better performance as well as bandwidth for us.
